David C. Shea

David C. Shea is a 1996 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law and 1992 graduate of the University of South Carolina. While in law school, he served as book editor for the South Carolina Environmental Law Journal, participated in the U.S. Department of Justice Summer Law Intern Program, and was a visiting student at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois. Prior to law school, Mr. Shea served as an assistant editor for Bobbin magazine. He is a native of Hollywood, Florida.

Before opening his own practice in 2004, he was a partner in King & Shea (formerly King & Vernon), with the esteemed Kermit S. King. Prior to entering private practice in 1999, Mr. Shea gained extensive trial experience as an assistant public defender in Lexington County. A graduate of the National College of Criminal Defense, he has represented both adults and juveniles in all degrees of criminal charges. He concentrates his practice in domestic relations, in addition to maintaining a presence in the civil courts, including attorney malpractice.

He is a member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the South Carolina Bar, Richland County Bar, and the South Carolina Association for Justice. He is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar’s Ethics Advisory Committee and Law Related Education committee, and is a past chair of the Pro Bono committee and the Law Related Education committees, and has served on several other Bar committees, including as a two-time member of the editorial board of South Carolina Lawyer magazine. He served on the case writing team for the South Carolina High School Mock Trial competition for several years and has traveled to national competitions with other SC Bar representatives.

Mr. Shea is admitted to practice in all South Carolina state courts and the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina. Mr. Shea has been certified by the South Carolina Supreme Court as a Family Court Mediator, and is often selected as a mediator by other family court attorneys.

Outside of the office, Mr. Shea has served as a BSA Scoutmaster and is a member of the Richland Sertoma Club.
